Nursery Curriculum

Welcome to Cherry Dale Nursery.

The first steps to every child’s education is important and here at Cherry Dale Nursery, we introduce children to a world of education through exciting and engaging activities. We focus on the individual needs of each child and help them to develop the initial skills that are so key in early years learning. We recognise that Nursery sets the foundations for becoming an effective learner and is vital in ensuring children are school ready.

With development at the heart of our Nursery provision, we follow the early years foundation stage (EYFS) curriculum that focuses on inclusivity, growth, and furthering the foundational skills that every child needs. We also look for and encourage the development of the characteristics of effective learning which thread through all areas of learning and support children to be motivated learners. We focus on developing the children’s prime areas first and then the specific areas.
Our work in the Early Years Foundation Stage emphasises the value of play as the medium through which a child achieves most. Play motivates children to learn and helps them make sense of the world through direct experience. When planning for learning experiences and activities through play, we start with the child. We look at their needs, background, previous experiences and stages of development.
We understand that establishing an environment that is valuable to learning, gives children the best chance to develop and progress along with building positive relationships with staff. Cherry Dale Nursery offers children a wide range of learning opportunities both indoors and outdoors.
We are inspired by the stories and nursery rhymes from Read Write Inc and use these to create influential learning opportunities to embed experiences with our children that will last a lifetime.

Staff work closely together throughout the year in the Foundation Stage, which includes both Nursery and Reception. The classrooms are next door to each other and the outdoor provision is shared which allows the children the time to explore and play in the new environment. This opportunity allows the Nursery children to meet the staff in Reception in an informal context supporting a smooth transition.

We recognise that parents are the most enduring educators and we aim to work alongside them, sharing information about each child, setting next steps together and providing support, ideas and guidance about how they can support their development at home.
