The Department for Education’s Governance handbook October 2020 identifies the essentials of effective governance as follows:
- Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;
- Holding the executive leaders to account for the educational performance of the organisation and its pupils, and the effective and efficient performance management of staff; and
- Overseeing the financial performance of the organisation and making sure its money is well spent.
Our governing body at Cherry Dale Primary School consists of parents, staff, community members and other stakeholders whose job is to hold the headteacher and leaders to account for the school's performance and support the work and wider life of the school.
The governance duty is, above all, to drive relentless ambition for all our pupils at Cherry Dale, whatever the circumstances.
