Design and Technology
Design and Technology Statement of Intent
It is our intent at Cherry Dale Primary school to provide our pupils with a quality Design and Technology curriculum that has been carefully constructed and is well taught using a range of creative teaching methods. We will ensure that children have the chance to use creative thinking and design for a defined purpose, with a tangible outcome. Through a variety of creative and practical activities, pupils will be taught the knowledge, understanding and skills needed to engage in a process of designing and making. They will work in a range of contexts through our topic based approach which allows for cross curricular links to be made, giving children the opportunity to apply in a practical context knowledge they have acquired in other subject areas such as speaking and listening and mathematics.
Through the study of Design and Technology pupils acquire a broad range of subject knowledge and draw on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils learn how to take risks, becoming resourceful, innovative, enterprising, resilient and capable citizens. Through the evaluation of past and present design and technology, they develop a critical understanding of its impact on daily life and the wider world. High-quality design and technology education makes our children prepared for secondary school and able to prepare for a future where they will make an essential contribution to the creativity, culture, wealth and well-being of the nation.
